Series
pipes
If a pipeline is made up of lengths of
different diameters, conditions must satisfy the continuity and energy
equations namely. The flow rate is the same in each pipes and the total head
loss is the sum of the head losses in the individual pipes. This is the natural
consequence of the conservation of mass principle for steady incompressible
flow.
But since all the Qs are equal, this
becomes
Parallel
pipes
The head loss is same in each part and the total
flow rate is the sum of the flow rate in individual part.
